READ Cased Hole (READ), specialists in production and integrity evaluation is pleased to welcome new apprentice Ross Fraser to the specialist team in Aberdeen.
Ross, originally from Portlethen in Aberdeenshire, will be completing his Level 5 in Mechanical Engineering through a two-year apprenticeship, spending four days at READ and one day at North East Scotland College in Altens.
Investment into the young workforce is of great importance during current uncertain times in the oil and gas sector.Ignoring industry trends, READ’s apprenticeship programme demonstrates its dedication to the development of their workforce as well as ensuring they have the right people and skills for the future.
Previously working for two years in facilities for another service provider, Ross made the decision last year to enroll in college to focus on working within the maintenance service area due to his love of repairing mechanical equipment and tools. One year through his course, READ approached Ross about an apprenticeship and he jumped at the opportunity to work for such a business where he felt his voice and expertise would be heard and valued.
The two-year apprenticeship will provide experience for Ross in a range of the businesses service areas including maintenance, logistics and operations. Each of the areas are mentored by a specific READ employee, giving Ross the opportunity to work with different members of staff throughout the company.
Ross commented, “Working at READ has been great, everyone is like one big family, and as well as having a lot of responsibilities and fantastic learning experiences, I already feel like a valued member of the team. I’m looking forward to what the future brings with the company and gaining more industry expertise.”
